Carole’s artistic journey is a testament to true creative passion. Born in Montreal, Quebec, she was a curious and creative kid. In high school, she discovered the magic of photography. Mentored by an art teacher who lent her a 35mm camera and sent her off to take pictures, she unlocked a secret world inside the school’s darkroom. This early spark led her to formal photography studies and a role in a commercial photo studio. However, her burgeoning career was halted by a string of hardships: the lab went bankrupt, her apartment was vandalized, and all of her photo gear was stolen !
Uninsured and broke, she fought to stay close to her craft by securing a "dream job" as a college photography technician. She couldn’t have been happier, and she was good at it! Yet, bureaucratic union rules stripped her of the position just a week before her official permanency, plunging her once again into financial and emotional distress.
Rather than breaking her spirit, adversity - or providence ? - redirected it. Through an employment program, Carole found a role as a celluloid painter in an animation studio. For the second time, another secret world has opened to her ! Over three decades, she worked hard to build a career in 2D animation, rising to become a background designer, layout supervisor and mentor. This career deeply enriched her visual language, instilling a mastery of perspective, light, composition, analysis and camera movements. Throughout those years, Carole quietly kept her first love alive, rebuilding her photo gear collection and continuing to shoot in her free time. She also worked a few contracts into real estate, weddings and philantropic events.
Now, Carole has come full circle. Having relocated to Crestone, Colorado, in 2023, she has finally claimed her rightful title as a professional photographer. Surrounded by the vast, mystical landscapes of the San Luis Valley, Carole blends 35 years of cinematic design experience with her foundational love for the lens, capturing the poetic essence of people and nature.
